Windows 95 Installation Instructions

PLEASE PRINT THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND READ THEM CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING INSTALLATION

The Global Internet software contains the Internet Explorer 4 (IE4) web browser with the Outlook Express e-mail and newsreader for Windows 95 users. We have tried to make it as simple as possible to open an account on-line using the software. These installation instructions are separated into two parts:

Section 1 - Issues to be aware of before you install the software.

Section 2 - Detailed instructions on how to install the software and create an Internet account with Global Internet.

Section 1- Prior to installation
Before installing the software, you should ensure that you have dealt with the following issues:

Is your computer powerful enough to run Internet Explorer 4?
To run IE4, your computer needs to meet certain system requirements. Microsoft have published their recommended system requirements for IE4 (see table below). We have found that while IE4 will work on older and less powerful machines, it can cause the system to run at a slower speed than would normally be acceptable. We therefore publish separate recommended system requirements:

Installation

Microsoft Specification

Global Internet Specifications
  Processor Memory Processor Memory
IE4 Only 486/66Mhz 8Mb P100Mhz 16Mb
IE4 & Outlook Express 486/66Mhz 16Mb P100Mhz 16Mb

Disk Space Required to Run Internet Explorer

Disk Space Required for Installation:

The Active Set-up Wizard should determine whether you have enough memory before installation begins

If your computer falls between Microsoft's and Global Internet's system specifications then we leave it at your discretion as to whether or not you install it. It should be noted that extra memory is relatively inexpensive to buy and will improve the performance of all of the software on your PC, including IE4.

Have you backed up all your system data?
Before proceeding to install IE4, it is essential that you have backed up all files on your system.

Have you uninstalled any previous versions of IE4?
If you have installed any of the "Beta" or "Platform Preview" versions of IE4, please ensure that these have been uninstalled before you install the Global Internet software. To do this, go to the Control Panel and Click Add/Remove Programs. Select Internet Explorer 4.0 from the list and then click the Add/Remove button. You should not uninstall Internet Explorer 3.0 or any earlier version of IE.

Have you closed all programs?
Before you install any software, you should make sure that all programs other than your operating system are closed. This includes programs that run in the background such as the Microsoft Office toolbar and anti-virus
software.

Once Dial-Up Networking is installed, you will be asked to re-start your machine.

You will have an opportunity at the end to check that you are satisfied that the information you have typed is correct. Click "submit" to open your account.
